Utena & Shiori: two of the same bird.
This is my first post! I'll start with a Revolutionary Girl Utena analysis because that's the reason I created this blog, to be able to post my paragraphs about thing's I enjoy.
First, i need to set down my vision of Shiori. For me she is a very strong character when it comes to writing, if anything I'd wish for a RGU spin off focused solely on her character. Shiori craves & searches for ways to be dominant, she wants to be in control of everything and if something goes wrong in her plans she breaks down—because as much as she tries & fight's for that dominance, she is still a weak fragile girl. She is manipulative if it benefits her, if it keeps her in control she will do whatever it takes. Shiori is a lesbian, this realization may be the catalyst of it all, she's different from the rest, she cant relate to girl's around her because the 'normal' is something she cannot truly be. Which is why she does everything she can to have the most power & control as she can.
Now, for hers & Utena parallels, i think what makes it most obvious is "you're very much like Shiori" said by Juri, Utena may seem completely different from Shiori at a first sight, but when you notice that her 'princehood' is also a way of trying to gain some power and control, you notice just how similar they are. Utena couldn't be a prince, because that's not something she was ever meant to be (& it being a patriarch construct yadayada) just like Shiori is never able to have the control she wanted to, in the end. This show's the reality of the world & has many feminism symbolism by itself. Utena & Shiori look for control as two women in a 'mens world' but fail.
